Pictures of Christmas Day

Christmas Day my hubby and a good friend and I went to Mt. Rainer to play in the snow.
We only got to go up to about 3700 feet, the road was closed to go up to Paradise due to the snowfall.
At Longmire was about 12 -14 inches or so, enough to take a lovely winter walk and play.

At the trail of shadows.

Walking along Nisqually river, which is under all that snow.

Some one made a snowman, so we dressed him up. My friend gave him bushy eye brows,
and I lend him my orange scarf.

Somewhere behind these trees is where the mountain is, but he was hiding on Christmas Day.
Irgendwo hinter den Bauemen befindet sich der Berggipfel, aber er hat sich nicht gezeigt am Weihnachts Tag.

How many Christmas Trees in the house is to many?

I have this affection for Christmas Trees. My husband thinks I am slightly of my rocker, but I am okay with that. I can't help myself , I think they are great.
I made this one in 1994 while living in Alaska.
It is now in the kitchen window.

This one is a hanging tree in the kitchen.
It does double duty as a kitchen night light.

This is our big tree, in the window between the kitchen and living room. This is also the one that Santa leaves my presents, since it is the biggest and therefore the most room for the lovely presents.

On the fireplace mantle.

A red tree for kitty, also on the mantle.

One for the hallway, with lights and some old German ornaments.

My wonderful husband got me this one in Germany
at the one of Weihnachts Market.

I rescued this one from a second hand shop also in Germany.

My small tree , I light it up when I have breakfast.

My hand made tree.

My sister gave me this one.

My new tree , it is a Charlie Brown tree.
I got it for Santa Claus day.

My computer needed a tree.

My wonderful friend Jeri gave me this one her Dad made .
It is in my sewing room.

So, don't you agree hat one can never have enough Christmas Trees in the home. I have plenty of room for a few more trees. In fact my refrigerator needs one, and my bathroom. I have my eye on a red tinsel one with lights and glass balls.

Sunday Picture

Last Sunday my hubby and I took this steam Engine train from Elbe to Mineral in Washington. It goes along the mountain ( MT. Rainer ) , and it is very slow. It was the Santa express, and filled with families with young children that got to go and see Santa. Their faces as they walked passed us were priceless, full of expectations and joy.

Quilt for hurricane Sandy victim.

I finished my leader's and ender's quilt .
It was so much fun, so I am working on another one.
I wasn't sure about a border, so I used the rest of the double four patches in the border. It worked out well, because I only had a set amount of backing fabric to use for the back and border. I had to splice the blue fabric in some sections, so I sewed a piece of orange rick rack on it.

I quilted an all over rectangle and square design on it, bound the quilt with left over binding from about seven other quilts and  now the quilt is ready to go to the East coast for a hurricane Sandy victim.

Leftovers make wonderful baby quilts!

I had blue minkee left overs from my sons quilt and bright flannel fabric from my grand sons quilt and I made a scrappy baby quilt. I had the green polka-dot flannel in my yard bin, also the blue for the binding.

I did a modern wedge kind of quilting on it,filled it in with some designs.  I must have been hungry for pizza.

Close up. I am still working on my free motion long arm quilting, especially small sections and ending up  on the design where I want to be. This is not easy for me.

Quick Christmas Quilt

I needed a quick Christmas quilt, and luckily I found in my stash a charm pack with 5 inch squares in Christmas colors. I made 96 half square triangles with them, and trimmed them down to 4 1/2 inch unfinished size.

My quilt is only 6 blocks ( each block is 16 inch finished ) , so I made 24 of these units. I than rotated these units to give me the layout I wanted.
I added a border of this nice Christmas fabric and I quilted a feather motive on it, bound it with a gold binding and it is done, except for some loose threads.
I like the way it came out.

Teenage Grand Sons Quilt is Finished

The quilt turned out bigger than I thought.
I backed it with a nice deep red flannel.

I added a scrappy border on three sides, left the top without a border so my grand son knows which way is up.

Close up  of my swirls quilting.
Now to tell the winner of the pattern Magic Maze
................ Drum Roll.............
It is Judy! Congratulations Judy, I will get it in the mail to you soon.

My Grand Daughters Birthday Quilt

My grand daughter is turning three years old , and it is time for the next quilt since the baby quilt she had got to small. She is a pink and purple girlie, so I came up with this quilt.
The setting block is the same as the one from my BOM .

The ideas for the flowers came out of this book" Curiosities and Mischief by Nancy Halverston "

I added rick -rack to all of them.

I made good use of cotton lace.

Buttons are sewn on tight.

Even tried my own rushing.

I found this great polka dot rick- rack at my local quilt shop.

This is how the quilt turned out. It is 68"by 80" , my grand daughter won't grow out of it for a while. In the setting blocks I quilted a huge flower, and the border has bows and swirls. I am pretty happy with the quilt, and hope Emily likes it also.

Fall is in the air

My neighbor is also a quilter and she invited me to join her and some other ladies to meet every other Friday morning to get together and do some hand quilting. This is what she was working on, and I thought it was a lovely idea.
The hexagons are about hand with size, and you only need a few of them to make a small table topper.

She hand embroidered the designs, and than used them as the center of the hexagons. You can still see the blue marking pen line.

I think I may have to make one,  it would be fast and you could actually do for for each season.
