Grandsons Birthday quilt

I bought in 2001 in Alaska a kit of bright flannel strips for a quick row quilt. Since my grand son is having a birthday in August and he has outgrown his baby quilts I thought it was a good idea to make him a new one.
I came up wit a quick design to use the precut strips, and realized after I started that not all strips were the same size, one was  6 3/4 and one only 6 1/4 .

So I cut the blocks into a rectangles and not into a squares.

Trimming the blocks.

I added some orange sashing,  the same fabric is on the back. I was lucky to have some bright green flannel for the borders.

I quilted loops and bubbles in the center of the quilt.

I did this in the border, which was hard for me I had to remind myself which way the turrets were going down the sides. My left and right brain do not always get along, lol!
I am sure my grand son will love it, it is very soft. I used a Dream Orient batting , which makes the quilt  so cuddly.

Sunday Outing- Sonntags Vergnuegen

Sunday my wonderful hubby and I went for a short cruise from Seattle to Blake Island. Our boat departed form Pier 55 in Seattle , right here.
Unser Schiff fuhr hier los, Pier 55 in Seattle.

The Seattle skyline with Space Needle.
The clouds hang low, but it didn't rain.
Info: Seattle gets an anual rainfall of 37 inches, Houston Texas about 50 inches. But because Seattle lays between the Olympic and Cascade mountain range, it gets dreary here a lot. Only about 100 sunny days a year.

We were greeted by a racoon, normally they sleep during the day.

This is the Indian village on Blake Island.

This is the entrance to Tillicum Village.
Eingang.

The staff brought out clams in these cups for us as a greeting, and after you eat the clam meat you drop the shells onto the ground and stomp on them.

Inside the long house they cook the salmon in the traditional way . It was delicious. After dinner they put on a show, and it was very informative.

We went for a walk in the woods, and we seen these- the huckleberry.
In a few days the huckleberry will be ripe, they can only grow on a old cedar tree trunk.

They are so good in pancakes and as syrup on just about everything.

I love the old growth forrest, you can find old trees lke this.

Five trees gnarled into one tree, it was huge.

Sunday Picture on Friday

My last Sunday picture was posted before, sorry! This is the one I wanted to post.
Sorry!

My first shopping trip to EE.Schenck as a business person

EE. Schenck is a wholesale business in Portland , Oregon about 2 hours away from here. So my friend Jeri and I did a road trip there yesterday. You have to be a business with Tax ID number to shop there, and security is almost as good as the US Army. You sign in, the give you a batch and than they let you in a secured door with  security number pad.

This is what the place looks like, a quilters dream. Yes, the shelves hold bolts of fabrics, you have to purchase the whole bolt,  and they are scrumptious.

The notions, everything you can think of, and than some.
This is what I bought. Some more threads, patterns, two books,  some gifts for my potential customers, a roll of batting, and my first two bolts of fabric, a back ground cream and a lovely blue batik, all MINE!

And if that wasn't enough overload, we went to Fabric Depot ( only about 7000 bolts of fabric )
lots of notios, and since a great sale was going on I bought some more stuff.

Flanell for a baby quilt, batting ( just love this Dream Orient batting) and a zipper pull for Lucas, my grand son.
