It is always my birthday

Whenever I like something it is always my birthday.
And I like a lot. My friends know this and let me be. Great friends.

Modern Grandmother's Flower Garden

I bought myself the book
hexa yo-yo by Tacha Bruecher
lastyear and fell in love with
this modern hexagon quilt.

I got started right away with the hexagons,
in bright colors.
As background I used grandmother's linens
that some good friends shared with me.

I went crazy with the border and , adding pieces of
different fabrics to get the size I wanted, and than I cut
two sides of the borders wavy.

This is my back, pieced and with a soft raspberry flannel and the brown
polka dot fabric I used as border.

You can see some of the machine quilting that my friend Jeri from Soundview
Long Arm Quilting did. Wonderful job.
Now I am trying to decide if I need to do any stitching or buttons in the yellow centers.
What do you think?

Jelly Roll Quilt Challenge Completed

The original pattern had the quilt
quilted vertically with a beige thread.
I tried that for about 8 rows, and realized that I did
not like that at all. It took away from the pattern. So I ripped it all out.

 I quilted the quilt horizontally
with a blue thread in the solid color bricks,
and with a beige thread in the light section.

I bound the quilt with a gold solid color fabric.
I am happy with it, and hope my brother will be also.

New Travelling Bag

My sister wanted me to make her a new small bag for work.
Lucky for me she asked for my favorite colors.

I decided to make one for me, since I will be traveling soon
and this bag is perfect for the trip.
The yellow button is a very old button from my button jar.
The pattern is the Sassy Bag from Lazy Girl Design

I accidentally made two shoulder straps instead of one,
and the first flap got to big for the first bag.
So I made a second bag , since a girl can never have to many bags.
I got carried away and made this one
for me. Even felted a red flower.

Same color scheme for my daughter-in-law,
her birthday is coming up.

Might as well make one more, since I had orphan blocks
to cut up and use in the flap.

Oldest Grand Daughters Quilt is done.

This is Haleigh's quilt all finished now.
I really like the pattern the big nine patches make
with the light sashing.
I will have to remember this .

My favorite long arm machine quilter
quilted butterflies and a soft meander
all over the quilt since the border has such lovely butterflies.
Thanks Jeri!
Haleigh and I love this quilt.

Kona Cotton Solid Jelly Roll Leftovers

Since I had all these strip sets leftover from the Jelly Roll Challenge,

I made myself a little wall hanging or two.

I added a flower just for the fun.
Even felted the center of the flower.

I still had leftover skinny strips, what to do with them?

I created quilted house postcards for some
very nice people.
I even mailed them last week.

HUA Challenge Quilt

The small but talented Group HUA's had a challenge last year.
Every member ( there are six of us ) got assigned a three colors of the color wheel.
We were not allowed to add black /white to the challenge. Each of us had to come up with a block
in these colors and every one in the group made blocks also.
My colors were yellow and blue and green. Instantly I thought of yellow stars on the blue background, but what do to with the green?
Aha, put it in the center!

I even hand quilted the center of the stars.

The background is quilted just straight with my Pfaff machine.
Sometimes I miss my Millie.

The border fabric was a trade from my friend Jeri,
and I did the quilt as you go method. I decided on green for the border,
since there was so much blue in the quilt already.

I am happy with the quilt .

My girlfriend's quilt

I made this quilt for my friend Debbie in 2009.
Sadly Debbie passed away . I miss her every day.

I took this class in Germany with a very talented lady that showed
 us how to make amazing
flowers to jazz up your quilt.

Kona Cotton Jelly Roll Challenge

Our little international groups challenge this time was to use a beautiful Kona Cotton jelly roll in fall colors. We could add more fabrics of our choosing, or just work with the jelly roll.
In the fall catalog from Keepsake Quilting I found this pattern that I fell in love with.
I was a little apprehensive to use the jelly roll in these solid colors, because the pattern picture used various batiks. But I am happy with the way it turned out, and my choice of background fabric lets you see the easy and fast pattern.
I am waiting to receive my backing fabric, so I can go ahead and finish this quilt.
I chose a wonderful rust - brown flannel.

Each of us in this group will keep their own quilt, but we are making a small  quilt with our leftovers
that we will  exchange this summer. Here a small close up of what I have created, because it is supposed to be a surprise.  This small quilt can not be bigger than 50 inches all the way around.

Hawaiin Quilts

At the hotel in Kailua Kona the walls were adorned with Hawaiian quilts.

They let me take pictures of all of them.

The hand quilting and applique work is amazing.

Can you guess my favorite?

The pineapple symbol stands for hospitality.

The hibiscus flower is used a lot in the quilts.
Since I am ready for spring, I thought theses quilts would be nice to show
and maybe bring some sunshine into your day.
